Welcome back to Song of the Week! This week’s featured song is the beautiful, yet sad Sailor Pluto and Queen Beryl duet, “Onna no Ronsou” (“Women’s Dispute”), which first appeared in Eien Densetsu. It also appears in Shin Densetsu Kourin and Kakyuu-Ouhi Kourin.
The context of the song is that Beryl is about to get taken out by Galaxia, now that’s she’s realized Galaxia was just playing her for a fool all this time. But before Galaxia can strike, Sailors Pluto and Saturn arrive and rescue Beryl. Beryl asks Pluto why she rescued her, to which Pluto replies that it’s because they love the same man, so she can understand Beryl’s feelings. They then discuss their love in song – Pluto the pain of her unrequited love for King Endymion, Beryl about how her love for Prince Endymion turned to hate. Pluto begs her to turn her hate back into love. Beryl snaps back that Pluto can’t possibly understand her pain, as a woman who has never actively pursued love. Pluto insists that she does understand, because unrequited love is painful too.
“Onna no Ronsou” appeared on two CDs – the soundtracks for Eien Densetsu and Shin Densetsu Kourin (Memorial Album of the Musical 5 and 6 respectively). The Kakyuu-Kakyuu-Ouhi Kourin version did not appear on CD, as that musical did not have a soundtrack. It only appeared at one fan event, the Kakyuu-Ouhi Kourin Fankan. It did not appear on any special videos.
That’s all for this week Tune in next week for another Song of the Week!
